The stakes are high: when large segments of the public cannot even agree on whether the economy is doing well, or who legitimately won an election, the very foundation of democratic decision-making cracks. Bridging the polarization chasm will not be easy, but it begins with recognizing the role of our media algorithms in accelerating these divides. By understanding the problem – as documented by the studies and reports cited here – we can start to develop solutions that restore shared reality, enable more nuanced economic debates, and strengthen social stability in the long run.
